Role Purpose

Creating a fairer society is what drives us at Hatch to get out of bed in the morning. We believe that supporting underrepresented founders across the UK to launch and grow businesses is one important way to get to that point. It inspires our communications team to find ever-more creative ways to reach other founders, promote our work and impact and share how people can get involved in supporting entrepreneurs and their businesses. 

Join us as a social media officer, create content that captures the imagination of those who know nothing about us, and the hearts and minds of those that already do to keep them engaged. Your work tells a story and amplifies the voice of underrepresented founders in the UK. 

This person in this new role will naturally work closely with the Digital Marketing Manager at Hatch, as well as the PR & Communications Manager, offering a real opportunity to help shape how people see Hatch and our work. There’s a huge amount of potential that needs someone who’ll pick up and carry on the conversations across social media, build relations with our graduates and attract new founders and partners to our cause.

You’ll be part of a busy, close knit comms team that loves a good idea and telling powerful human stories that drive people to take action, whether that’s joining a Hatch programme or event, making a donation or sharing their story. You’ll create video, animations, and graphics, but most of all, have a stack of ideas just waiting to be turned into great content.

In this role, there’s scope to grow all areas of Hatch’s social media, not least of all our video content. We’ll support you to develop and build this area, both in terms of your own skill set and budget to invest in video that’ll help us transition Hatch’s digital comms to a bold video-first strategy.


Social media content creation 

  • Producing a wide range of eye-catching and engaging digital content (video, images, graphics, copy) for social media to support our strategy to build brand awareness, share impact, attract new funders and partners, and recruit and engage new founders to our events and support programmes.
  • Working with the Digital Marketing & Communications Manager to plan and deliver a content calendar across all social media and digital channels.
  • Developing a series of on-brand written and visual templates for social media and digital use.
  • Attending community events and meeting Hatch founders to capture audio and visual content for social media use.
  • Shaping, developing and transforming Hatch’s approach to producing video content, with support from the team and training.

Building and engaging with Hatch’s founder and graduate community

  • Managing Hatch’s organic social media activity on a daily basis, engaging and responding to comments and posts to build engagement and conversation across Hatch’s social media channels.
  • Working alongside Hatch’s cohort programmes and community teams to engage with new online communities, including current founder and graduate communities, responding to comments, messages and requests.

Brand building

  • Working with the PR & Communications Manager to pro-actively seek conversations and topics we can and should be a part of, and responding to comments and posts.
  • Working closely with the wider communications team on campaigns, story gathering and building our real life case studies portfolio.
  • Maintaining a consistent tone of voice, personality and look and feel across all channels in line with Hatch’s brand.
  • Supporting the reporting of analytics and insights to shape the content plan and strategy to the communications team and wider Hatch team.

Person Specification 

Knowledge and Skills

  • A strong creative streak with the ability to tell engaging stories to a wide variety of audiences with different needs and motivations.
  • An understanding of the different digital communications channels and platforms, and the role of segmentation in communications.
  • Some knowledge and understanding of digital marketing and current digital and social media trends.
  • Good at managing your time and able to juggle a variety of projects with shifting priorities.


  • You care about working towards a fairer society and the role of communications and entrepreneurship in achieving that.
  • Someone who is comfortable trying, potentially failing, but learning from experience.
  • Happy to appear in front of the camera in social media content desirable, but not essential.
  • Happy to take on a hands-on approach to working within a small communications team and working collaboratively with the wider Hatch team.  


  • Some experience of growing an organisation’s digital and social reach and engagement desirable.
  • Some experience of evaluating analytics data. 
  • Must be a frequent user and lover of all things social media, ideally Instagram and TikTok.
  • Some experience with video editing is desirable, but not essential.
