TERN's mission is to enable refugees to thrive through the power of their own ideas.

In our first 4 years, we created one of the world’s leading startup ecosystems for entrepreneurial refugees, with three tried & tested, intersecting programmes & supporting services delivered in collaborations with partners like Adobe, McKinsey, Ben & Jerry’s, Mercato Metropolitano, and many more.


The On Demand Programme:

On Demand is our consultancy-style, bespoke programme for entrepreneurs who are either in market or who need instantaneous, flexible and targeted support. The programme has two streams: 1. Momentum, which offers individual journey plans, expert advice and case management, and 2. Spark, which offers point of need support through an online chat and drop in sessions. This is a great time to get involved, as On Demand is set to expand to new cities in 2022.


Key responsibilities

The On Demand Programme Officer will:

  • arrange and deliver 1:1 business and founder advice sessions
  • plan and manage participant journeys
  • document case work and sessions weekly in TERN's management & monitoring system
  • actively seek and curate opportunities for On Demand entrepreneurs
  • collaborate with the wider Enterprise team to identify opportunities for improvement of programmes, services and tools
  • manage collaborations with delivery partners
  • match our volunteers with entrepreneurs and facilitate sessions


What we're looking for in our Programme Officer

We're looking for a kind, empathetic and adaptive problem-solver who is passionate about empowering diverse entrepreneurs. You're never afraid or too proud to ask for help but enjoy being a team player and managing your own workstreams. You understand the importance of quality service and attention to detail, and can build rapport quickly with entrepreneurs. You are open-minded and curious, and excited to co-shape your ever-evolving role!


Your skills & previous experience

  • Hands-on entrepreneurial, small business or start-up experience
  • Experience delivering bespoke, 1:1 advice (ideally business/startup advice)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Business planning and financial planning (startup budgets, cashflow forecasting) skills
  • Strong organisational and task management skills
  • Experience in Monitoring & Evaluation and data entry for casework
  • Volunteer management experience
  • Experience supporting people experiencing hardship and living with personal vulnerabilities
  • Experience creating learning and training content
  • Experience in creatively driving & shaping your own roles and workstreams


TERN perks

  • £30,000 p.a salary
  • 25 holiday days per annum plus national bank holidays
  • Pension scheme – we contribute 3% to a NEST pension scheme
  • 3 personal learning days p.a. with £100 company contribution
