Head of Product & Engineering

Joining our founding team, the Head of Product & Engineering will set Academy’s technology vision and take a hands-on approach to building the products that will power our education business. They’ll build and manage a lean, high-performance engineering team and be given full autonomy to shape the role technology plays in scaling our business.

As Head of Product & Engineering, you’ll be developer #1 so you’ll need to be hands-on, impact-driven and share our ambition to reach global scale as a key player in the tech economy.

• Compensation: Competitive base plus equity
• Location: UK - Academy is HQ'd in Manchester but we're open to remote working

Key Responsibilities

1. Set and own Academy’s product and technology strategy, building a product roadmap that balances between quick wins for our scholars and long term value creation in line with our growth objectives.
2. Work across the founding team to identify opportunities where product and engineering can support business growth, commercial objectives, and the experience of our scholars, faculty, and employer partners.
3. Hire, lead and develop a lean, high-performance product and engineering team, managing their performance and engagement within a complex, early-stage startup environment.
4. Research, develop and deploy new technologies to improve selection, assessment, and learner success within remote-first training programmes.

Requirements

3. Background in high-performing product and engineering teams within high-growth technology companies
4. Track record of rapid progression and high-achievement in tech
5. Experience mentoring and coaching junior engineers
6. Ability to thrive within a fast-paced early-stage startup environment
